Social media helps theft victim and police locate suspect

HENDERSON, Ky. (WEHT) – After posting surveillance video on social media, a theft victim allegedly locates the suspect within 24 hours.

According to a police affidavit, officers were dispatched to a residential burglary on July 5 where the garage and truck of Sean Calvert were broken into at 5:30 a.m. and that a firearm, a backpack and a bottle of whiskey was taken. He stated that the handgun was worth $1500.

Calvert reported that he had surveillance cameras on his property of a white man going onto his property at the time of the theft walking into his garage, where he was allegedly observed taking a bottle of whiskey from the refrigerator before entering the truck.

Police say the backpack was retrieved after it was left behind in the back alley of the Calvert’s home.

On July 6, the Calvert allegedly located the suspect after posting the surveillance video on Facebook. A friend supposedly contacted the Calvert about the suspect being spotted in public.

Calvert allegedly followed the suspect from Riverside Drive until police arrived in the area at Southeast Second/Court Street where the male was identified as Lance Roy.

After speaking with Calvert, he says the firearm has not been located at this time.

After police confirmed Roy was the suspect in the surveillance video, he was arrested for theft of a firearm and is currently being held at the Vanderburgh County Jail.
