I Hope This Netflix Live-Action Anime Show Gets Renewed After 1 Massive Cameo At The End
Summary
- Parasyte: The Grey is a unique live-action anime adaptation on Netflix, with a different set of characters from the manga and a South Korean setting.
- Shinichi Izumi’s cameo at the end of Parasyte: The Grey hints at a potential season 2, connecting the K-drama to the anime and manga.
- If a second season happens, it could explore other parasite groups, Shinichi’s experience, and the relationship between Su-in and Heidi.
I wish Parasyte: The Grey, Netflix’s most unique live-action anime show, would get a second season after a massive manga cameo at the end that left me wanting more. There are plenty of live-action anime adaptations on Netflix, with some being much better than others. Netflix has released some disappointing adaptations like Death Note (2017) and Cowboy Bebop, but it has also delivered some great shows like One Piece. Fortunately, Parasyte: The Grey was a great take on the world of Parasyte.
It must be noted that Parasyte: The Grey was not a direct adaptation of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s manga. Instead, the Netflix K-drama took place in South Korea and followed a different set of characters. I liked the idea of having a live-action spinoff story rather than a proper adaptation of Parasyte: The Maxim, especially because there were already two live-action movies based on the source material. That said, Parasyte: The Grey included a major connection to the anime in the form of Shinichi Izumi.
Parasyte: The Grey Season 2 Needs To Happen After Live-Action Shinichi Cameo
Shinichi Izumi could be a major player in a potential season 2
Parasyte: The Grey ends with Jun-kyung, leader of Team Grey, receiving a visit from a Japanese man who claims to be a consultant on parasites. This man is revealed to be a live-action version of Shinichi Izumi, the main character of the Parasyte manga. Shinichi was also the main character of the Parasyte anime, Parasyte: The Maxim, which covered the manga. This was the second live-action version of Shinichi, the first being from the Japanese Parasyte movies based on the manga. Masaki Suda played Shinichi in Parasyte: The Grey, whereas Shôta Sometani played the character in the movie.

Parasyte: The Grey’s ending confirmed that the K-drama was set in the same universe as the anime. Shinichi is clearly older in Parasyte: The Grey compared to the end of the anime, meaning the Netflix live-action series takes place after the original story. Although Parasyte: The Grey told a self-contained story about Su-in, Shinichi’s cameo at the end makes me wish that season 2 would happen. There have not been any updates on a potential Parasyte: The Grey season 2 so far, but I would be very disappointed if such a massive cameo did not lead anywhere.
What Would Parasyte: The Grey Season 2 Be About?
Parasyte: The Grey season 2 could explore other parasite groups
I believe there is room for Parasyte: The Grey to continue. I would like to see more of the relationship between Su-in and Heidi, which was very different from Shinichi and Migi’s dynamic. The series also sets up Kang-woo working for Team Grey, meaning that the parasite threat is not over yet. Lastly, Shinichi’s cameo is the perfect sequel hook. Parasyte: The Grey season 2 would essentially be as a live-action sequel to the anime, showing how Shinichi has been since the end of the original story. Of course, Parasyte: The Grey’s main character is Su-in, not Shinichi.

Even still, Shinichi could be a great supporting character in the second season of Parasyte: The Grey. He would be by far the most experienced member of Team Grey, as he had been fighting and studying parasites for a while by the time Su-in’s story happens. I would also like to see Shinichi react to Su-in’s relationship with her parasite and vice versa, as they are completely different. Heidi acts as Su-in’s alter ego, whereas Migi is framed as a “pet” who is always around Shinichi and can interact with him.
Parasyte: The Grey’s Ending Is Self-Contained Enough If Season 2 Never Happens
Su-in’s story had a satisfying ending.
Parasyte: The Grey showed the same alien invasion from the anime, just from a different perspective. The story was set in South Korea, with the series following a specific group of parasites led by a creature who wanted to infiltrate humanity’s most important organizations. Starting with the local church, this parasite planned to become mayor and even president. Parasyte: The Grey also explored Su-in’s backstory and her relationship with her parasite alter, Heidi. By the end of the show, the parasite organization had been defeated, and Su-in had become friends with her parasite.

Netflix’s Live-Action Parasyte Show Nailed The 2 Most Important Things About The Anime
Parasyte: The Grey was not a direct adaptation of Parasyte: The Maxim, but the live-action series got two major things right about the anime.
Su-in overcomes her fears and traumas at the end of the series, which is why Parasyte: The Grey does not necessarily need a second season. Having live-action Shinichi appear on the show was a great piece of fanservice that also helped connect the K-drama to the original manga. Although I would love to see Shinichi and Su-in interacting in Parasyte: The Grey season 2, the Netflix series has a satisfying ending. Shinichi’s cameo is enough to tell audiences that the protagonist of Parasyte is doing okay and now acts as a consultant.
Parasyte: The Grey
“Parasyte: The Grey” imagines a world where alien parasites begin taking over human hosts, blending horror with psychological drama. The original manga follows a young man who forms a symbiotic relationship with his alien parasite, leading to a morally complex journey as they confront other parasites threatening humanity. This adaptation adds a unique twist, focusing on the grey areas of survival, identity, and the essence of being human.OVERRIDE
