After nearly 70 years in business, retail chain announces it’s closing every store

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Discount retailer Bob’s Stores is getting ready to close up shop.

The company, which began in Connecticut before expanding throughout the Northeast, will close all locations and liquidate all inventory, according to a press release by the chain’s owner GoDigital Media Group. The move is part of the business’ Chapter 11 restructuring petition, which was filed on June 18.

“We regret that our financial position necessitated the liquidation of Bob’s Stores,” Dave Barton, president of Bob’s Stores, said in a statement. “Bob’s has been a stalwart of our local communities for nearly 70 years, and we know our customers remember us as having been there for major moments in their lives. We remain grateful to our vendors, suppliers, customers and employees for all of their support over the years.”

The final day of business is July 14.

While there are no Bob’s Stores locations on Staten Island, there are two on Long Island.

Though similar in name, the Bob’s Discount Furniture and Mattress Store chain is owned by a separate company.

Bob’s Stores is offering discounts of 30% to 70% off. Gift cards and merchandise credits will be honored through the final day. All sales are final and no returns will be accepted.
