200 pro-Palestine demonstrators arrested at US Capitol

WASHINGTON (DC News Now) — The U.S. Capitol Police (USCP) started to arrest pro-Palestinian demonstrators at the Capitol on Tuesday afternoon.

Starting at 3 p.m., a group with Jewish Voice for Peace refused to leave the Cannon Building Rotunda. According to an email from the group, 400 American Jews, including two dozen rabbis, participated in the sit-in.


For nine months, we’ve watched in horror as the Israeli government has carried out a genocide, armed and funded by the US. Congress and the Biden administration have the power to end this horror today. Instead, our president is preparing to meet with Netanyahu and Congressional leadership has honored him with an invitation to address Congress. Enough is enough. Biden and congress must listen to the people: We need an arms embargo now to save lives

In a post on X made just before 4 p.m., the U.S. Capitol Police wrote, “We told the people, who legally entered, to stop or they would be arrested. They did not stop, so we are arresting them.”

In an update made shortly before 9 p.m., the USCP said about 200 people were arrested for crowding, obstructing or incommoding inside the Cannon House Office Building.
